Now You Can Surround Yourself With Gold and Chocolate While Getting Wasted in Midtown!
A lounge called Aurum ( Latin for gold) is scheduled to open August 1st, in Metropolis, the likes of which would even impress Auric Goldfinger. Taking street level space on the 8th street side of Metropolis, Aurum is bound to set a new standard of luxury in Atlanta. Aurum's location may be ironic to Midtown residents as it's across the street from the shuttered Gold Star cafe & bakery. Aurum is designed by Atlanta-based Habachy Designs whose work includes Compound nightclub and eatery, and Dressed. The concept for Aurum was inspired by Dolce and Gabbana's Gold Restaurant in Milan and is said to be Hollywood Regency Glam with a gold and chocolate color palette. The menu is to include typical bar fare along with sushi, small tapas and sandwiches, but nothing fried. Owner Mike Hsu is actually a resident of Metropolis who apparently couldn't resist what he sees as his golden opportunity to open his dream lounge. Let's just hope he has the Midas touch with not just with the amenities but with the food as well. Repeat Atlanta!

At least they won't be busting out the windows to steal the redmonkey jeans.
ReplyDeleteAdd to the death watch.
ReplyDeleteseriously this sounds and looks like douchebag central. count me out.
ReplyDeletehis name is Mike Hsu, the nicest guy you will ever meet.
ReplyDeleteYes, add to Death Watch when they haven't opened yet...genius!
ReplyDeleteGood for him! Opening up his dream in an economy like this. Entrepreneurship is not dead!
ReplyDeleteThe real thing... http://www.vintagetub.com/blog/labels/Solid%20Gold%20Toilet.html
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure where the info for this blurb about the new Aurum is coming form, but you have it all wrong...they will not feature gold toilets and chocolate. It will be an upscale cocktail lounge, and from what i here is being designed by Michael Habachy who only designs classy projects. also to jonathan who is calling this d-bag central--what basis do you have for posting this comment? Where do you hang out Applebee's?

ReplyDeleteThe gold toilets are from D&G's restaurant Gold in Milan which Michael Habachy said himself that Aurum lounge would be modeled after (the image title clearly depicts this info and explains that Aurum will not have gold toilets). Also, there will not be chocolate. The posting does not say such. The color palette is Gold and Chocolate, these words also from the mouth of the designer, Michael Habachy. Michael has done FANTASTIC work, and Im sure that Aurum will portray his eye for design like all of his other projects.
So to answer your question, the info from this blurb is straight from the mouth of Michael Habachy.
Actually "anonymous" I do not even live close to an Applebees but thanks for asking. It's just that when I see a gold toilet and bidet in Atlanta it conjures up images of the kind of self absorbed over the top materialism that is so 2006. Now that we know these will not be present it might have less chance of attracting quite as many d-bags. We'll see.

ReplyDeleteCuz that's how you roll baby. "Upscale." "Classy." Not like those schleps at Applebee's.
A fickle market in bad macro times. But God bless the man for putting his blood and treasure on the line. If he can feed his family and employ labor while separating people like you from their money, then he's doing humanity a tremendous service.
This place is doomed for failure. The half life on it will be a few months if they can even open. They have owners that have no business acumen and probably can't even get a liquor license. Why employ a modern designer to copy a boring palette from a Milanese place that's in poor taste? I'm not sure what kind of audience they're looking to attract but from what I see, it's not the kind that's going to spend any money in there. Mike Hsu isn't a nice guy, he treats women like a pair of shoes when they go out of style and is incredibly materialistic. It doesn't matter when they're only with him for money, he's not at all attractive. He should concentrate on working at the family business if he even shows up for work at all.
