Biscuit Lovers Rejoice! The Flying Biscuit, Sandy Springs Has Landed and is Opening Soon

Local franchisee Barbara Juhan will be opening her first Flying Biscuit cafe at the corner of Roswell Rd. and Hammond Dr. in Sandy Springs in the coming days. Originally set to open the first week in March it may not open to the public till mid month as there have been delays by the developer and contractor in getting the parking lot finished, something that must be done prior to opening. Juhan is recreating the iconic "Sunflower Room" from the original Candler Park location with a new, updated look. As everyone who reads this blog on a regular basis knows, I'm not a fan of Raving Brands, I repeat, NOT A FAN OF RAVING BRANDS! but, Ms. Juhan seems intent on being involved in the neighborhood and has been a fan of the Biscuit since long before the Raving idiots took over the business. Urban Flats; From a Frenzy to a Flop In 60 Days?

Urban Flats, an Orlando based franchise, who's local franchisee Bob Rogers opened a second location at Lindbergh City Center has already replaced his general manager. With an interesting concept and a great space, its a wonder this place does not do better until you step foot inside. Weeks ago it seemed to be doing well, with many diners inside; that has changed of late. It seems the restaurant has an identity crisis of sorts. Utilizing OpenTable, a system usually found in many mid to high-end sit down restaurants, with a very large space and reasonable menu, the concept seems to be a confused hybrid of restaurant, bar and on certain days, club. Judging from the dining room on a recent weeknight visit, this confusion seems to have led to the most unwanted outcome, emptiness and loss of customers. Repeat Atlanta!

Panchero's Will Stetch Your Dollar With Opening Promo

Panchero's Mexican Grill, a new entrant to the downtown dining scene hopes to entice you with opening promotion. The event will take place next Thursday, March 5th and will allow you to purchase a burrito for only a buck between 2 and 7PM. Unlike other Mexican grills like Moe's , Chipotle, Willy's etc. , Panchero's separates themselves with a burrito pressed in front of you and finishes it off mixing your ingredients with "Bob" so every bite is just as flavorful as the last. I can't tell you how cool/tasty these both are, you've got to see it / taste it to believe it! Panchero's is located beneath the TWELVE hotel and down the road from the recently opened downtown W hotel on West Peachtree. Repeat Atlanta!

Concentrics Concept Checking Into The Glenn?

It seems Glenn Hotel owner David Marvin's story of buying out the Maxim Prime lease to enlarge the meeting and banquet space of the hotel was just that, a story. Word is, Bob Amick's Concentrics Hospitality will open a new eatery in the Glenn later this year. "30 Tables" as its known already has an OpenTable page listing 404-469-0700 as its phone number and 110 Marietta St. as its address, both previously associated with Maxim Prime. The Executive Chef is said to be Daniel Chance, currently at LUMA on PARK in Winter Park, FL, another Concentrics concept. Repeat Atlanta!

***(2/28) Update: "3o Tables" IS the name of the restaurant, it IS a Concentrics concept, and they ARE open for business. The official opening will occur in April as there are still adjustments that need to be made in the conversion from Maxim Prime.

Someone Looking To "Jock" Former Jocks & Jills In Midtown?

Long since shuttered Jocks & Jills in Midtown has had a lot of activity in recent weeks. Men were seen removing antennas and satellite dishes from the roof and other work was being done on the interior. Is something finally happening to this sad little space at 10th and Peachtree in the heart of midtown? If anyone would like to share, please email Eli with any dirt you'd like Repeated, anonymously or otherwise. Repeat Atlanta!

Just What I Wanted For My Birthday! A New CVS Pharmacy in Buckhead! (NOT)

I'd like to think I'm not the only one sick of Walgreens and CVS taking prime locations in metro Atlanta. There comes a time when you have enough. CVS Pharmacy will take a portion of both the former Ethan Allen and Eatzi's in Buckhead for a new store to open in the coming months. With a CVS in the Borders shopping center north on Peachtree and a Walgreens south on Peachtree and one North on Piedmont on Roswell, I feel in confident in saying: this should be the last pharmacy built in the area. (There are already 2 Publix's and a Kroger in the area) Repeat Atlanta!

Georgian Terrace Grabs Chef Gary Mennie For New Livingston Eatery

The Georgian Terrace hotel in midtown Atlanta has secured Gary Mennie to helm their new restaurant, Livingston. Mennie, co-founder of Canoe and ex-executive chef at his recently closed SoBu eatery Taurus, is a favorite of mine and was sought after by the hotels management. The restaurant honors former Atlanta mayor Livingston Mims and will be run by San Francisco-based Puccini Group. The hotel was built on land that years prior was home to Mims original residence. The Livingston restaurant is the crown jewel of the $11 million dollar renovation the historic hotel is now going through. Repeat Atlanta!

Buckhead Life Delays Opening Of New Pano's Eateries

Pano's & Paul's will close its original location late this month in the Publix shopping center on Paces Ferry and will reopen as Pano's; the new signature restaurant within the St. Regis Hotel. Originally scheduled to be an all but seamless transition from one location to the next, word is construction's at a standstill and that an opening is not expected until late 2009, November at the earliest. Pano's other upcoming eatery, Pano's Grand Cafe opening in the Sovereign Building is also delayed. Tentatively set for a Spring 2009 opening, the actual opening might not occur till the early fall with already a new name, "Balon Rouge". Repeat Atlanta!

Allegro Restaurant Rapidly Closes After V Day

Allegro restaurant, an Italian eatery with chef Jose Rego at the helm has closed. The restaurant closed after dinner service on Valentines Day with no word on where Rego may be headed next. The menu and preparation was a little more creative and inventive for me on my one visit. When I want Italian, that's all that that I want, this place tried to do too much in my opinion. Add to their troubles a terrible location at the end of Dutch Valley past One Midtown Kitchen and you had the perfect storm for restaurant failure. Repeat Atlanta!

The Firkin Pub Coming To Lindbergh

Agnes & Muriel's Relocates To Buckhead

Local favorite Agnes & Muriel's left their 13 year old space on Monroe Dr. in midtown Atlanta this past Sunday and will open for business this weekend. The restaurant opens in the shuttered Cafe Dupri, owned by local hip hop icon Jermaine Dupri. Making the move from midtown should pay dividends for this eatery, with easy accessibility off Piedmont Rd. and close proximity to Lenox and Phipps. You can't tell from the outside but this little joint can seat up to 120 and has a private dining room for special occasions. Repeat Atlanta!

Maxim Prime-d For Buckhead Move?

Jeffrey Chodorow's Maxim Prime restaurant will close its first location March 1st*. Open for about a year, the restaurant was the first of a number of planned Maxim Prime locations nationwide. The reason behind the closure is owner David Marvin's desire to increase the meeting and banquet space of the hotel. There was talk months ago of Chodorow's China Grill restaurant coming to Buckhead, but no word of late. The speculation now being that Maxim Prime will reopen in a bigger Buckhead space within the next few months. Repeat Atlanta!
* Despite the closing date being reported as March 1st, a source within the restaurant claims it will in fact close this Sunday, February 15 after dinner service. Maxim-ize your time, eat while you still can!

The Low Down On LOEWS Atlanta Hotel

According to a source within the company, LOEWS Atlanta Hotel is 8 weeks ahead of schedule for the opening of its new Atlanta property. Adding to what is being coined the "Midtown Mile", the hotel will complement the recently completed 1010 high rise when the hotel opens the first week of February 2010. Loews is also relocating its regional offices to Atlanta ahead of the opening of the hotel. Repeat Atlanta!

This IS Big! - PGA Tour Superstore Closes Buckhead Location

PGA Tour Superstore, a giant golf and tennis retailer with locations across the U.S. from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach, Plano and Scottsdale among others, has closed one of its Atlanta area stores. Opened in late 2006 in a portion of the building that had housed a short-lived EXPO Design Store by The Home Depot, the store is now closed. Originally the land had a Sam's Club on it, later the EXPO and most recently the PGA Store, now comes word the store was doing well but closed as a result of the pending sale of the land to an apartment developer. Atlanta did have the greatest number of PGA Store locations with 4 (Kennesaw, Duluth, Roswell and Buckhead) and the Buckhead store was not actually in Buckhead per se, located off Lindbergh Dr. most easily seen by a north bound MARTA train, but its sad to see it go. The Tappan Street Restaurant Group will open their first flagship location of their hugely successful Taco Mac chain this summer in Sandy Springs. Taking the 8000 SF space formerly occupied by Jocks & Jill's Frankie's restaurant in the Prado shopping center on Roswell Rd., the new eatery will be one of the biggest in thier seemingly always growing number of locations.

FIGO Pasta Goes OTP For Newest Location

FIGO Pasta with a few scattered locations around Atlanta from L5P to Vinings has gone up 400 for their newest location. This week FIGO opened near North Point Mall in Alpharetta on North Point Pkwy. In my opinion, FIGO puts wannabe [Artuzzi's] to shame as FIGO's sauces and pastas are made on site and come with fresh baked bread and olive oil. As an added bonus for you newbies, the first 10 people this week at the NP location to dine for lunch will eat for free! Repeat Atlanta!
