Victoria's Secret Opens New Flagship Stores At Lenox

Victoria's Secret has opened their third largest flagship store, spanning three storefronts at Lenox Square. Less than a year after an earlier remodel, the new store features a "PINK" boutique as well as the full line of lingerie, beauty and fragrance products. Other than the addition of the PINK boutique, the store looks very much the same, though there was a total renovation of the existing space and a slight addition in the back. Repeat Atlanta!

Street's of Buckhead Adds To Its Retail Lineup

Ben Carter's The Street's of Buckhead has added three upscale clothiers Brioni, Leggiardo, and Shirts & Co. by Domenico Vacca. While these are some great additions, these are not names that will garner the interest of others to join the development. Labels such as Carolina Herrera, Ermenegildo Zegna, Ted Baker and lululemon athletica would make great additions. Repeat Atlanta!

Blue Genes Downsizing?

It appears the downturn in the economy has an effect on the girls over at Blue Genes. Weeks after opening their hugely successful new concept "Green Genes", it appears they will be downsizing their Buckhead boutique from four store fronts down to two. Signs are posted on both the Green Genes and Men's doors saying they are closed for inventory, though it seems they are shifting inventory to the other two stores. Stay tuned for an update in the coming days. Repeat Atlanta!

UPDATE!... Blue Genes has in fact has downsized their Buckhead boutique from four store fronts down to two. Signs that previously stated inventory was taking place now say they have moved next door (shifted inventory to smaller space).

Famous Dave's, a Minneapolis based chain of Bar-B-Que restaurants has closed its three metro Atlanta locations. Citing poor performance, the company announced the closure today. Harold’s Closing All Stores, Finally!

Dallas-based Harold's will close all 43 stores nationwide including three in metro Atlanta. When it was announced they would move their from Lenox to Phipps, I went in to the Lenox store to have a look. Having never been in the store, I totally understand why they are now closing. Their brand seems stuck in the 90's. Nothing stuck out, it almost seemed like a Sears outlet. Having taken a portion of the former Gap at Phipps, the mall will soon have two large vacancies with the January 2009 closing of Niketown. Ruehl 925, or Martin + Osa could be possibilities, though neither has shown significant growth potential after fast starts. The other Harold's in metro Atlanta are at the Avenue's East Cobb and North Point Village, near North Point mall. Repeat Atlanta!

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Coming To Midtown, So They Say

Mandarin Oriental, rumored for years to be coming to Midtown Atlanta has apparently finalized an agreement with Atlanta based Tivoli Properties to construct their hotel / condo at 1138 Peachtree Street near the Atlanta Woman’s Club. Mandarin Oriental, a world renowned, 5 star hotel chain would be a welcome addition to the current Atlanta hotel market. (My take on this announcement is more a "believe it when I see it" hence the title) While plans of this would be property were released over a year ago, construction had not begun and talk that the project has been abandoned had increased with the credit crunch. The Mandarin, if it comes to fruition, will be the a coup for the city of Atlanta and midtown especially. Already with the Four Seasons and upcoming Loews hotel, and later the second Intercontinental, the Mandarin will further Atlanta's reputation as a destination, not just domestically, but internationally. Circuit City Files For Chapter 11, Exiting Atlanta Market

Yes, we here at Repeat Atlanta area little late on this one, we'd like to look at it another way. With Circuit City leaving the Atlanta market just as CompUSA did a few years back and Incredible Universe did many years ago, is hhgregg next? Tweeter's hifi Buys has closed a number of stores in recent years leaving it with a single store in Alpharetta. It seems as though the only electronics merchants able to survive are the behemoth that is Best Buy, BrandsMart USA and Fry's Electronics. My question, what will happen with all these vacated spaces, many in prime shopping centers? Circuit City's store in Buckhead and hifi buy's former space near SOB are both great locations, but for whom? With even more retail closures expected next year, there may be an influx of prime real estate coming available all at the same time. But with the economy being what it is, its doubtful to think any new or expanding retailer would enter or expand their Atlanta presence. It seems that we will be left with eyesores galore. Lenox May Get "Pink"er

Thomas Pink, luxury apparel and accessories manufacturer owned by LVMH, is said to be in talks to take the space vacated when Mayor's Jewelers moved to their new location. The old location is a few doors down from Gap, on the main level and across from Bloomingdale's. Thomas Pink’s main competitors include Ted Baker and Paul Smith, who both offer collections for men and women clothing and accessories. Both of the aforementioned brands do have significant followings in Atlanta but neither have retail outposts here, though both have been rumored for years.

Wolford Returns To Buckhead, This Time Phipps Plaza

Luxury hosiery and lingerie retailer Wolford is scheduled to open a 950-square-foot store at Phipps Plaza in time for the holidays in the Saks Fifth Avenue wing of Phipps Plaza. The Austrian manufacturer Wolford will be making their second go at the Atlanta market after an unsuccessful store at Lenox Square years ago. Personally I think they will do better at Phipps than they did at Lenox, as it offers a higher end clientele, more in line with the typical Wolford shopper. Repeat Atlanta!

Baccarat Hotel Seems To Be DOA At SOB

With so many high end hotels planning on entering or adding to their Atlanta presence, some are bound to reduce or reschedule plans for their properties. The first casualty it seems may very well be the Baccarat Hotel from Starwood Capital. Initially set to occupy space in Ben Carter's tremendous The Streets of Buckhead development, the hotel has been removed from both the S.O.B. site as well as the Bacarrat site itself. Personally, it seems as though the soon to open St. Regis and W will add enough to the Buckhead market to keep things interesting for a while. Repeat Atlanta!

Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, currently with 4 locations in the metro area, and 1 already in Buckhead will open a second Buckhead location by years end.
